A pregnant woman was injured in a shootout between Kibria Miji and Kana Zahir, accused in multiple robbery cases in Munshiganj Sadar. The incident took place at around 10 am on Friday (January 31) in Kalirchar village of Adhara Union.
Relatives of the injured woman said that Shahin Bepari, brother of Kana Zahir, and his men attacked the house of Raju Sarkar, a Kibria supporter, on Friday morning following the incident of two people being killed in a shootout in the Meghna River on Thursday.
At that time, Pinki Akhter, who was pregnant, was injured in the ambush. The 9-month-old pregnant woman has been admitted to Munshiganj General Hospital in her injured state.
The injured Pinki said, Raju is my brother Raju. In the morning, Shahin and 10-15 others attacked the house with pistols and ramdas. To save Raju, I entered the house and closed the door. Later, when my mother and I were standing in front of the door, they shot at us. Then I was shot. We want to escape their torture.
Munshiganj General Hospital's emergency department doctor Shaibal Basak said that the woman is currently out of danger as the bullet entered the right side of her body below the waist and exited from the other side. She was admitted to the hospital after receiving first aid.
Munshiganj Police Superintendent Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar said that additional police have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. Multiple police teams are working to arrest them.
It is learnt that two people were killed in a clash between Kibria Miji and Kana Zahir bandits on the Meghna River on Thursday night.
